Finding a School
We are able to advise parents about which independent day and boarding schools or tutorial colleges would be the most suitable for their son or daughter. Our advice takes into consideration the pupils’ strengths and interests as well as any long term aims. We are also very conscious that young people thrive in a school or college environment which develops their confidence and where they feel at ease socially. Some young people respond well to a highly competitive culture, some don’t. An emphasis on art, drama, music or sport can be of key importance for some as this could spark what may become a passion for the rest of their lives.
To understand what is best for the pupil or student, we meet them with or without parents. We review academic progress, ask searching questions, listen and then give personal advice about choosing the right school or college and make suggestions about subjects to be studied at GCSE, A Level / Pre U, or the IB.
To gain up to date information about each school, we read inspection reports and league table listings. We check exam results in relation to the pupil intake and by subject so we are aware of the relative subject strengths within the school. We talk to staff, listen to parents, and take note of staff changes.
We are able to liaise with schools about applications. This can be particularly helpful when students may be applying late for whatever reason or they live abroad.
Meetings are by appointment only and usually take place in London in the Fellows Room at the Royal Society of Arts, 8 John Adam Street, London WC2N 6EZ. The nearest underground stations are Charing Cross and Embankment. Meetings can be arranged at clients’ homes but travelling expenses will be added to the consultancy fee.
We also advise parents over the telephone. No charge is made for school recommendations provided telephone consultations do not exceed 15 minutes.
Find a Tutor
Drawing on many years of working with a wide range of gifted tutors, the Consultancy is able to arrange home tuition in London for students who have attended a consultations. All tutors are interviewed. Confidential references are sought and Criminal Records Bureau checks are made. We do not recommend tutors unless they are very highly qualified, experienced as well as effective and inspiring teachers.
