Dyslexia/SLD

As an English teacher in tutorial colleges for many years, Elizabeth Rickards has considerable experience of working with students who have a specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, or attention deficit disorder. Over the years she has seen many students whose confidence at school has been undermined because specific learning difficulties have gone undiagnosed. For these students it is vital that they are at a school where they can thrive, studying subjects which play to their strengths and develop their talents, and that they are in an environment where teaching staff are able to encourage and inspire.

A personal Dyslexia/SLD consultation involves a review of current academic progress and study skills, an analysis of any problems experienced at school and an assessment of literacy. Where students have not been to see an Educational Psychologist previously, we are able to advise whether this would be worthwhile and make the necessary arrangements. If students have already seen an educational psychologist, we need to see a copy of the report before our meeting.

If parents are considering a change of school either at 16 or before, we are able to advise which schools or colleges would best suit their sons or daughters. Above all, we are able to reassure those young people who visit us that their education will become less challenging as they get older, and that there is nothing to stop them making a great success of the future in whatever walk of life they choose.
